1960 – Paul McCartney and Pete Best are arrested and jailed in
Hamburg, Germany for attempted arson when they burn a condom in the
backstage area of the Bambi Kino cinema where they’ve been living.
1963 – The Beatles release their single, “I Want To Hold Your Hand” b/

1965 – Colorado Governor John Love declares the day “Rolling Stones

1966 – Just outside of Little Rock, Arkansas, Elvis Presley hears
Georg Klein play Tom Jones' “Green Green Grass Of Home” on his radio
show, and repeatedly calls the station to have the song played again
and again.
1976 – The Lancaster local council cancels the Sex Pistols’ gig at
Lancaster Poly, saying, “'We don't want that sort of filth in the town
limits.”
1979 – KISS plays their “final” gig before “breaking up” at the San
Diego Sports Arena. They will tour again the next year with a
different drummer.
1979 – Paul Simon hits his record label, CBS, with two lawsuits in an
attempt to break his contract.
1979 – Anita Pallenberg, Keith Richards' common-law wife, is cleared
of all charges in the shooting death of 17-year-old Scott Cantrell.
1992 – U2's first television special, U2's Zoo TV Outside Broadcast,
airs on Fox-TV.
1997 – Whitney Houston pulls out of a concert sponsored by the Moonies
two hours before she is due on stage after finding out the event is a
mass wedding for over 1,000 Moonie couples. The religious group said
they have no intention of suing providing the singer returns the
$1million fee she was paid.
2000 – Chuck Berry’s keyboardist, Johnnie Johnson, sues Berry for
songwriting credits on 52 songs. The suit will be thrown out on
October 23, 2002, due to the statute of limitations.
2002 – Three paintings by Paul McCartney are bought for just £35 each
at the Secrets Postcard Sale at London's Royal College of Art, where
members of the public gamble on whether they are buying works by
celebrity artists at a fraction of their value, since the work’s
creator is only made known after the sale.
2003 – A five-hour charity concert to boost the fight against AIDS is
held at Greenpoint Stadium in Cape Town, South Africa. Acts include
Bono, Queen, Ms. Dynamite, Peter Gabriel, Eurythmics, Beyonce, Youssou
N'Dour, Anastacia, The Corrs, Jimmy Cliff and Chaka Chaka. The show is
also broadcast live on the Internet.
2005 – Pop Idol creator Simon Fuller drops his £100 million copyright
suit against the X Factor's Simon Cowell, which charged Cowell with
copying Pop Idol, and settles the case out of court in a deal which
makes him a joint partner in the X Factor show. As part of the
settlement, Cowell agrees to appear for five more seasons on American
Idol.
2007 – Control, the biopic about late Joy Division singer Ian Curtis,
takes five awards at the British Independent Film Awards, including
Best British Independent Film, Best Director, Best Debut Director,
Most Promising Newcomer in Curtis’ portrayer Sam Riley, and Best
Performance By A Supporting Actor Or Actress In A British Independent
Film for Toby Kebbell, who plays Joy Division’s manager Rob Gretton.
2007 – Former Smiths singer Morrissey begins proceedings to sue the UK
music weekly New Musical Express for printing an interview where
Morrissey calls Chinese people a “sub species.”
2007 – Former Lynyrd Skynyrd drummer Artimus Pyle, a convicted sex
offender, is arrested for the second time in 10 days for failing to
properly register at a new address in Florida.
