Tom Selleck Turns Down Indiana Jones Tom Selleck is known to most as the moustachioed Magnum PI and for his role as Monica Gellar’s older boyfriend on Friends, but he could have made a whole lot more of himself if he didn’t turn down the titular role in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Alright, now there’s no guarantee that he would have made the films a success in the same way that Harrison Ford did, but just look at the screen test above – the chemistry with Karen Allen is totally there, even if it takes a few seconds to adjust to Indy having a moustache.
Rumours continue to persist that his Magnum PI bosses wouldn’t let him out of his contract and that’s why he had to turn it down, but it’s not something he seems keen to talk about. Instead of remaining relevant just as Ford has (releasing a new Indy film back in 2008), Selleck hasn’t starred in a notable movie in years, sticking to the “less judgmental” realm of TV it seems.
