..... *I’ve thought long and hard about posting my thoughts on Paris and the other recent terrorist acts and I’ll probably regret it now anyway. I say this from a point of an atheist lefty, a position which I’m happy with. If religion is your thing, good luck to you and you should have the freedom to practice it to your hearts content, when and wherever you wish, and not be discriminated against. I’m pleased if it gives you happiness and sanctuary. It’s not for me though and I would appreciate respect for this point of view.*
*It seems to me that if a group of people committed an act of barbarity and then promptly announced that it was in the name of Catholicism, the Pope would stand up, along with a large number of the 1.2 billion Catholics in the world, and say, **“**not in our name**”**. I’d expect the main streets of the world to be full of angry people distraught that their religion was being misrepresented [including by knee jerk media and smear campaigns] and giving the perpetrators nowhere to hide. After all, if you’re religious then I guess this would be REALLY important to you. I guess the same would happen if someone started a “Bombing for Jesus” campaign. Much as some want to paint all Muslims as terrorists, that is [and these dimwits actually do know this, they’re just trying to be ‘big men’] palpable bollocks. If all 1.5 billion Muslims were terrorists we’d all be dust by now. I’m positive that 99.9999% of people of this faith are appalled by these acts of wanton destruction. These acts are not purely aimed at Westerners, I see that one of the premises attacked on Friday has been owned by a Muslim family for 40 years, they are criminal acts by criminals using Islam as a shield in order to divide their ‘audience’. I have no idea of their motivation which makes it nigh on impossible to fathom a solution but if 1 billion people stood up and said “not in my name” surely this may help to undermine their ‘legitimacy’? This isn’t an anti-Muslim criticism it’s just something that just confuses me………* *…..and while we’re at it, what is it with the ‘Jihadi John’ tabloid crap? The guy’s name is Mohammed Emwazi and he is [or was] an alleged criminal terrorist & murderer and should be referred to as such.
