Ya know, I'm getting as little curious about this debate as well.

It would seem to me, that since I own the modem and therefor it's my
property, anything I care to do to it would be my bussiness. If the cable
company wants to limit my bandwith in an attempt to extort more $ from me,
then shouldn't they have to do that at their end? I mean this seems akin to
telling me I can't upgrade my machine because it would run faster. Does
anyone know of the true legalese reguarding this issue or can provide links
to the emperical evidence?
