Hiya, My webcam has failed to work since I upgrade to Ubuntu 9.04 (kernel 2.6.28-11). I did everything again from scratch and now only Mplayer detects and shows webcam images. Cheese shows neither "No wecam" nor "With webcam". Please note it worked with the previous kernel.
