I like the idea of getting more people involved in the IRC discussions. To that end, I have two ideas:

1) Make the IRC transcripts subscribe-able.  I've done that here:

http://microformat.makedatamakesense.com/log_feed/

That should at the end of each day with only the non-bot messages from the IRC transcript, for quick skimming.

2) Make the IRC room more visible on the /discuss page by moving it up higher on the page. The discussion list, the IRC room, and the blog are all suitable for the same broad audience, and might work better grouped together at the top of the page with the more technical lists below.

I also mentioned on IRC that I think many of the people who should be involved in these discussions have never used IRC, and Brian suggested we make a page listing IRC clients for people new to IRC, which I think is a good idea.
