As suggested in the currency "Related microformats" section, I think
a simpler money microformat (without "unit") could be combined with
hListing [1] to cover something like this, e.g.:

<span class="hlisting">
        <span class="price money">
<abbr class="currency" title="USD">$</abbr><span class="value">25</
span>
        </span> a <span class="item fn">barrel</span>
</span >
