That said, I'll use this as an opening to pose a question that I've been wanting to pose since I haven't gotten all my thoughts 100% sorted on the subject, but I can do it less formally tagging onto this thread... It seems to me that a spec in a "necessary but not sufficient" condition for maximum adoption. Additionally I see these things as needed: * Reference implementation in Javascript for add-ins to web-based text editors for blog, forum, and wiki software * Reference implementations in Java, .NET, Ruby, PHP, Python, etc. as Windows, Mac, and Linux components for add-ins to desktop web publishing apps * Reference implementations in Java, .NET, Ruby, PHP, Python, etc. for parsing HTML pages in Microformats * Evangelism to Website owners * Evangelism to Software Platform and Tool vendors I'm sure there are more, but I see these as critical, and I'm not sure what level of efforts or even awareness there are towards these ends. I'd love to be involved in some of these efforts although currently I personally don't have enough consulting revenue to support such efforts and no one is currently sponsoring me to be involved here (this is just a personal interest I have.) What's more, I'm not sure what everyone view the goals of Microformats and the envisioned use-cases. I'm coming to believe that there are some very different assumed goals & use-cases among the people in discussions (not because of anything specific, just a feeling I have.) Without clarifying these, I think we'll be at cross purposes long term.
