Depending on your feed reader you could filter by topic/keyword etc.
You can also filter RSS with any feed reader by using this proxy
service:

As for how to reply, people can subscribe to the list and disable
message delivery, allowing them to reply via email but read via RSS
or the HTML archives or whatever.
