Ciaran, in addition (or perhaps first), you should assume that you're
not the first person to think of an idea for a microformat, and thus
first check the "exploratory discussions" page to see if there is
something similar:

In this case, a similar effort was previously pursued:

It may save you some time to take a look at effort and either see if
you want to help that previous effort (add to work already done), or
at least understand and contrast why your pursuit is different from
that previous effort.
