Hey Dave....

I have Ray Millers book (a signed copy) and George Butlers book too.......and
actually will be spending the next few days wiring in a 25HP 3 phase motor for
use as a single phase net metering generator (i already have a 5HP and a 7 1/2
HP on line) .....i'd like to see the photos of the other sites you have
visited......I'm in Orford NH......let me know if you want to
visit..........Mark

Subject: [microhydro] 3 phase motor as generator for net metering and then
some

Some years ago I met a fellow in Vermont who was generating power
and net metering (I think the power company knew about it) He was
using a 3 phase motor which had 2 legs tied to the grid and the
third leg had some excitation / power factor capacitors on it. He
also was using a buck boost transformer on the third leg to control
the voltage output and the power factor (so he claimed) I have
original drawings showing all this that he submitted to Western Mass
Electric many years ago. His name is Ray Miller and his company was
called Harrisville Mill Service. He is mentioned in the book by
George Butler and when I visited George before he died, he suggested
I go visit Ray since he was only a few miles away. What a day that
  was!

Anyone out there know about Ray or any of his installations, or the
use of a three phase motor to generate power for net metering on a
  single phase system?

While I have your attention, I am looking for small home built
hydroelectric installations in New England to go look at and
photograph. I have found a half dozen or so but I'm sure there are
  more.

  Thanks

  Dave
