Dear all, I work on a small scale hydropower project in northern Laos (2400kW). A small dam is diverting water into a dessander, then into a 1,2km pipe (diameter 2,4m), leading to a surge tank. With the non-stop raising price of steel, we have studied several technical solutions to convey the water from the intake to the surge tank. But neither GRP pipes (very expensive) nor concrete (very long) appeared to be the good solution. For now few days, I have been thinking of the possibility to use the old technique of the wooden pipeline. There are some very good woods around here, fitting exactly to this use, and wood may have some advantages: -low friction -Easy and fast to build up (endless barrell method) -Low cost -Envirronmentaly friendly
My only problem now is to find skilled people to do it, and in a first time, experienced people to advise us on many points as any of our team as ever built a wooden headwater pipe... If you know this people, or if you can advise us, feel free to contact me! Here is the technical characteristics of the pipe: -Diameter 2400mm (inner) -Flow: 6,3 m3/sec -length 1250m -Slope: 0,2% Wood used: Thingan (hopea odorata) Thank you in advance [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ------------------------ Yahoo!
