Wood Stave Pipelines In my past career (pre-retirement) as an engineer working for a large utility I dealt with a number of old abandoned wood stave pipelines that had to be removed or filled with sand to prevent collapse. In working with these I picked up quite a bit from looking at old pictures and talking to the old timers. Here are a few suggestions. 2400 mm is quite large have you considered two smaller pipelines that could withstand the pressures with a bit less hassle. Start with dry wood so that when you fill the line it will expand and seal watertight. Put a hoop around the pipe every 150mm. use random lengths of wood so that the end joints are staggered. When I started to read your request I thought microhydro and hot dog build the pipe out of bamboo that you have plenty of. Many people have water lines of bamboo. Good luck, I will rustle up a picture or two for you. Sincerely, Robert K. Weir P.E.
