Hi,

I've just joined the list and have just finished installing Midgard. I
haven't had time to do any work yet as I am still busy getting through
the docs.

I found an entry in the FAQ stating that no work has been done within
the area of implementing support for several charsets yet. I am not sure
if this will pose a problem for me and my team yet, and wanted to hear
what you 'veterans' have to say about it.

We are currently developing a website that will show contents using
iso-latin-1. To simplify translation we are looking up all strings in a
MySQL database given the LanguageID that we provide in the select query.

The translated applications will run on a separate machines which will
have mysql compiled with another charset (according to mysql docs this
should be possible, just remember to reindex before use...)

The question is if the Midgard application will handle the other
charsets or if I should expect problems...

I am not even sure if I understand the charset problem fully... The way
I see it the chars are stored on the storage medium using a char#. This
number represents different characters depending on the charset, right?
I reckon that URLs are guaranteed to mean the same, no matter where in
the world you are, and that I therefore can expect to understand the
characters here (and the params sent with it).

Or am I totally loosing it ;-)
