This is a bug with the new Admin Site. The article
administration interface looks for replies attached
to that article, and unfortunately tries to do that
also for the article which hasn't been created yet.

It isn't fatal (article creation still works), but
is confusing and ought to be fixed. Someone care
to patch the Midgard-data 1.2.5 package?

On a basic level none of the three elements are dependent
on each other, but there are some requirements there still.

The Midgard page generation begins by looking at the page
requested for, and the style associated with either it or
the host being served. Then the server will read the
midgard-root.php3, which calls for some style elements.

If these elements (or at least, the ROOT element) don't
exist, the pages show up with no data in them.

A minimal solution for testing phase would be to create
a style with only the ROOT element with content something
like:

<html>
  <head>
    <title><(title)></title>
  </head>
  <body>
    <(content)>
  </body>
</html>

This would show the contents of the page in a
very simple HTML format. The two elements referenced
here (title and content) are special elements that
contain the content of the respective page of the page
requested.

The hosts and styles are basic (and required) elements
for any Midgard site, but the topic and group structures
are more optional.

The group system is mostly used for handling user
permission and authentication data, but can also be
used for things like personalization etc.

Topics are a way of abstracting the content of the
site in a hierarchical format independent from the
actual site hierarchy (as defined by hosts and pages).

Of course. Things like this are very important and ought
to be documented. The problem here is that most people
out there who already have experience in Midgard are either
too busy applying their Midgard skills for other purposes
or creating new functionalities for the system. The
documentation is important, but will need much more
volunteer work until anything really useful can come out
of it.

The contributions everyone involved in discussions
on this list or working on the documentation make are
important, as eventually we will have enough information
available that the learning curve will become less steep
for new users.
