Boy what a task it is to get user authentication with sitegroups! I've read
just about everything there is available at the Midgard web site and even
the mailist, and I have to say that I am thoroughly stumped. I hope that
whoever is writing the manual will look closely at the sitegroup section and
describe it so that newbies and oldies can understand the concepts. There is
much written, but it's just not clear. Sometimes simple graphics can tell
more than lots of text.
I hope I am not stepping on anyone's toes! I believe in the concepts of
midgard, and understand the beta thing, but if Midgard is going to take a
foothold on the web, then clear, understandable how-to manuals must be a
part of the software.
Anyway, after going through everything that I could get my hands on to
implement sitegroups (18 hours of research/testing), I can no longer log in
with the admin user account. What I have been able to do is to create a new
administrator which does seem to have the administration permissions, but
I'm just a little confused why the admin account which is the default for
midgard administration no longer works. The table below shows the midgard -
table members.
------------------------------
id uid gid sitegroup
1 1 0 1
2 2 1 1
------------------------------
id 1, which is the default admin does not work. id 2 now works as an
administrator. What I've noticed is that the gid of uid 1 is set to 0 and
that there does not seem to be any midgard - table grp 0. Did I delete it in
the process of trying to get things to work, or what?
The reason for my concern is everything I've read about gid 0 is that it is
the admin root. Does this still apply now that everything has been adjusted
to use sitegroup 1? Here is a quote I pulled off the mail list which Emile
had responded to. The message is located at:

Is this true now that everything has a sitegroup of 1? If not, could someone
please tell me which settings I should be looking at for the admin root? Or
if my new uid 2 with gid 1 and sitegroup 1 is the correct one to use as
admin?
I'm just lost with too much reading...
