Hello,
This is an announcement for a freeze on all midgard-project.org updates
and an explanation of the Midgard Networking strategy.
Our current server and bandwidth, tyr.greywolves.org, is being replaced by
space on the Teraloop server, teraloop.com. Armand, with Emiliano's
assistance, has prepared the environment and is migrating the Midgard
database to the new server, momma, later today. The migration, including
global DNS updates should be complete within 72 hours.
An announcement to resume updates to the Midgard database will be made
within 24 hours.
Midgard Network Sponsorship
Armand Verstappen has been contracted by Aurora to manage the Midgard
networking concerns amongst other duties.
Ideally, the Midgard network should begin with two dedicated machines. One
in Europe and another in the U.S. Teraloop, of the U.S. and Envida, of The
Netherlands, have volunteered to provide space, bandwidth and
administrative services. Aurora, of Paris, France, is sponsoring the
networking effort by employing Armand and identifying part of his duty to
be responsible for Midgard administrative concerns.
Additional offers for dedicated machines, bandwidth and administrative
services have been offered by other members of the Midgard developer and
user communities. Upon completing the current move, Armand will assess the
offers and design our network strategy to accommodate these contributions.
We're asking that everyone who is interested in assisting with Midgard
network, establish their interest by responding to this letter.
Afterwards, Armand will assess the opportunities, formulate a strategy and
present our intentions on the midgard-dev mailing list.
The needed contributions include; hardware, bandwidth, administrative time
and financial compensation (to cover costs of bandwidth), coffee and
cigars.
Teraloop Network Description, Costs
The costs of Teraloop's contribution are $3.50 per gig of data transfered.
A dedicated machine at this facility will be an additional $50 per month
for rack space. The bandwidth connection is an OC12 to the POP which
houses 15 OC192s on the QWest network.
Envida Network Description
Current, redundant OC-3 uplinks, great airco, +. No cigars.
Whithin four to eight weeks, Envida will move to a space that has; airco,
UPS, backup generator, 24x7 physical access with redundant 155Mbps
uplinks.
If you're interested in contributing to the Midgard Network, have
offered your services in the past, please respond to this letter. All
contributers will receive due credit on www.midgard-project.org.
Thanks much-talk to you soon,
Ron Parker
