I just tested on a rh62 machine with apache-1.3.6-7. No problems at all.

But since the little test app you compiled ran without problems, I'm
thinking
it's something like an old lib loading. Nothing else I can think of
right now.
Do you have midgard libs around that do not define this symbol?
