I understand.
Armand alerted me to the existance of freevsd
(http://www.freevsd.org/). I haven't used it yet myself (although it's
on my perpetually growing 'must-do' list). It may be helpful in
testing things like this in a safe environment.
I use VMware myself for this kind of testing.
