Got out of work at 3:30 today, so I decided to make the most of it and head to Vassar Farm. I managed to see the following:
Birds: - 50+ American Robins all together - 1 Northern Mockingbird - 1 Killdeer - 3 Blue Jays - 5 Tufted Titmice - 3 Cardinals - 4 White Throated Sparrows - 3 Mourning Doves - 1 White Breasted Nuthatch - 5 Eastern Bluebirds - 3 American Goldfinches - 2 American Kestrels - 1 Red Tailed Hawk - 1 Mallard - 7 Red Winged Blackbirds Other Notables: - 1 Snapping Turtle - 1 Wood Frog - Heard what I have to assume was a Brown Thrasher (stayed to listen for about 15 minutes and it never sang the same call more than three times) near the gate to the eco preserve. Again, the Kestrels were very active. I spotted them around 6 pm in the usual spot and watched them for a good 25 minutes. I got a load of pictures, but they were too far away to get any great photos. I'll post one or two of the better ones later. I got to observe them preening & flying low over the field. The male had caught a little brown bat and was flying from place to place to find somewhere to eat it without being harassed by the red winged blackbirds. I plan to go somewhere tomorrow as well, so hopefully I'll have some good luck.
