Bob,To add further to the story, PanAm Express also operated a number of city
pairs out of TXL, basing at least 2 ATR-42 aircraft there (and maybe as many as
4 - my memory fades in the regard, which you are free to correct for me) for
services to cities both in Germany and out...Best regards, BillSent from my

whom the current Munich airport was named.  He was once given a seat (and a
captain’s hat with a Pan Am insignia) at the controls of the first A310-200 in
a specially arranged flight from the former Munich-Riem airport to
Berlin-Tegel.  A single A310 was part of the FRA hourly schedule, and was

help” is a useful metaphor for what was far more than cash.   I was in a mtg in
about 1986 where Josef Strauss, Minister-President (= Governor) of Bavaria (and
then also Chairman of the Airbus board) proposed to the US Ambassador to West
Germany that Airbus would stay out of the long haul market (not yet launched
A-330/340) if Boeing would cede half of the narrow body market.   You can
imagine the response from WashDC, not to mention Seattle.   tom w.
