Fleet Planning includes delivery hedging, or certainly should, these days.

Keeping the A350’s on order but deferring delivery probably works out for everyone.

Airbus can find more profitable uses for the delivery slots, but they keep some leverage on UAL to keep them buying A320 family

UAL has an insurance option in case Boeing runs into a problem and keeps Boeing honest

I don’t think anyone minds the current situation

Interesting comment at the end of the article, saying that UAL will never take delivery of its A350’s on order.  Perhaps going for a 787 mix that covers all its bases instead?  Or keeping its options (pun intended) open. . . .

United Airlines Shifts 56 787-9 Orders To 787-10: Is The 777-200ER Era Nearing Its End? - Live and Let's Fly

United shifts 56 787-9 orders to 787-10. Could this signal the beginning of the end for the airline’s 777-200ER fleet?
