As one who has been in the Baltics since the morning after Russia invaded 
Ukraine (so much for "It will only be three or four months, max..."), I have 
zero confidence in this statement:

"This puts Moscow and St. Petersburg potentially at risk if Putin goes haywire 
and tries to grab the Baltics.."

It will be like Ukraine: a front trying to hold back invading forces while 
missiles and drones rain down upon cities. Look how close Vilnius is to Belarus 
- 30 km. Its airport is already constantly closed due to balloons from the 
border. Riga is not much further from the Russian border.

They may defend what has not yet been taken, if anything. Meanwhile, nobody is 
going to attack Russian cities. Zero deterrence value there.

When it gets to Poland, Europe might wake up.
