Why is the A320neo incapable of flying west coast to Hawaii? United flew at
least one proving run with the A321neo between California and Hawaii and
decided that it was marginal in the configuration that they bought, but they
plan to fly the A321neo to Hawaii once deliveries start with their leased
examples which are due to start arriving this year or maybe early 2027. Those
aircraft will have LEAP-1B engines instead of PW1100G engines but the
significant differences for Hawaii is that they will have an ACT (additional
centre tank).
An A320neo can also be fitted with an ACT and so-equipped should have no
problem flying West Coast to Hawaii.
