I am not seeing that behaviour. what machine are you testing on? local with clean setup? demo server?
are you working of latest develop branch or some other relase brach (for both backend and UI)
if you are getting "No connection, verify application is running" its most likely a 500 internal server error - can you check the logs on tomcat to see what was spit out on console/logs.
