[~sanderheyden], I am currently working on this issue and wanted to check about the current practices at musoni kenya and the potential users of mlite
1) Do they allow transfers of active loan account 2) where to allocate the interest income on current outstanding loans, does everything go to the new branch, or only the remainder? and what happens with overdue interest etc.
Question 2 should ring a bell :)
The original Mifos product does not allow any transfers of entities with active loan accounts, which was a major pain point for many users.
In the first task of the transfers implementation in MifosX, we will be allowing migrating groups with active loans accounts between centers etc. This would address the major concerns of existing users like GK who do not migrate clients (with active accounts) between branches.
Also, an implementation which allows migration of loan accounts between branches would need to address the following issues a) Should we Disable/Handle various activities which might not make sense for a migrated loan account (Ex: If I undo the disbursal of a migrated loan account, how would this affect the accounting books?) b) Disable backdates payments /adjustments of existing transactions etc? (a backdated payment could result in changes to principal/interest/fee split of other already existing payments made in the original branch where the loan was created, how would accounting handle the same?)
I had seen a software used by an MFI which does the following: If a "GROUP A" is moved from "BRANCH 1" to "BRANCH 2", all transactions made by "GROUP A" in "BRANCH 1" (all portfolio as well as accounting transactions) are copied over to BRANCH 2 (and deleted from "BRANCH 1") . So, If I run a historical report on "BRANCH 1", it would be as though "GROUP A" (and all the clients and loans under it) never existed.
I don't suggest that we do something similar :), but found the approach very interesting so wanted to make a note of it (the said organization was very happy with this functionality and has over 40,000 customers across 12 branches)
