FWIW, KEEF (an MFI in Kenya using Mifos) today asked me if it was possible to search on National ID (which it isn't)... seems that a general "search everything" feature would be helpful, not sure of the implications.

I know that a user in Nigeria has built functionality to change the way the Mifos generated IDs-- I'm sure he'd be happy to tell you more about his experience. From what I've heard, it wasn't an easy change. :-) It would be helpful to learn more about why you need this functionality-- this may allow us to provide better recommendations for your problem. We have one MFI, for example, who is using multiple systems to manage different aspects of their operations. Each system generates a different user ID-- so they're planning to build a simple external database to act as a client ID mapping database. Not sure if something like that might be helpful for you....
