Hi Frank,

Good to hear you joining the community. As per your request, its alright.
However, please not that ASP models are not good for developing countries. You
need internet access within the working hours which could be unavailable most
of the time. There are two options that may make sense.

1. Mifos Light

2. Install Mifos in each of your locations and synchronise your data.

As per your installation, if it still online model, you can get people within
the community that may help. However, if it were to be installed within your
premises, please let me know how I can help (I assume you are somewhere in
Africa, possibly Nigeria). You need to develop a good capacity since you have
operations in 4 countries.

As per mobile banking, you can get some other opensource applications that may
help. However, you need to acquire skills in webservices to interface with
MIFOS. I was involved in the project. Should you still be interested in Mobile
banking, please let me know may be we can jointly start it again this time
around. I believe with an MFI like yours showing interest, the project can take
off. The MIFOS Mobile as it is called is expected to provide branchless banking
solution either from POS or your mobile phone. This is expected to reduce your
overhead greatly.

One good thing about Mifos is that the core banking engine is very versatile
and you can change as much as you want based on your business model. However,
you need to understand the architecture and the business logic to do so.

Before you go into production, please set up a very good development server and
test is very well. In addition, MIFOS provides a very good knowledge base for
complete implementation starting from pre-implementation, implementation and
post implementation. You only need to put it time. Once you go through it, you
are bound to have success in the implementation.

If you are operating in Nigeria as a microfinance bank, then you need to add
some other features to MIFOS before deployment as we failed in our first
instance without those instances. You need to understand the BIRT very well to
generate the CBN report. You also need to have an integrated
accounting/financial package to give you your financial indicators. However, if
you are operating as an MFI, then you can integrate with any of off the shelf
application. In addition, you need to build the current account for it as well
as the term deposit. For you to do this, you can easily manipulate the saving
business object for that purpose.

One thing I can assure you about MIFOS is your ability to explore it and tweak
it will determine where you can take it to. MIFOS is fun once you know how to
play it.

Once again, you are welcome to the community.

Thank you,

Thanks Krishnan,

>From everything I've reviewed on Mifos, this platform has great
functionality for all our centers. We would just modify each center within
Mifos to accommodate that countries methodology.

I would really appreciate you helping us set up the basic
server. Is it set up on a Mifos server. That would be my preference, if not we
have servers that handle our website. Our immediate need.

1) A web-based
platform.

2) Capability
for each staff member to access and update data on real-time or end of day.

3) We
will deploy mobile banking technology next year. That data can be manually
inputted
into Mifos if not automatically.

For now the basic server would suffice.

Frank

  Hello Frank,

  Welcome to MIFOS!

No, the demo server is just that: for demonstration
purposes. You may be best served by your own server installation that is
configured for your needs and users, but i can't tell without knowing some
  more about your needs.

All the instructions you need are available, if you want
to try the do-it-yourself approach. And, if not, there are other people who
can help. Some may volunteer, and some may charge for it.

For e.g., i can volunteer to help you setup the
basic server.. Being a web-based application, its not necessary that you
need to host your own, but of course, you should feel comfortable enough that
you can use Mifos securely if you "host" it elsewhere, on a server
  on the Internet, for example.

A good way to begin may be to list your needs and see how
close Mifos is to meeting them or exceeding them. For example, if you have
operations in different countries, you may have needs that other MFIs may not
  have.

Hope that your exploration of Mifos ends with a successful
installation. You should definitely get a lot of help from this list

  best regards,

  krishnan mani

  We
have running our data manually for too long. We are new to Mifos and
  wondering about a few things.

  We
have centers in 4 countries and would like a system that is web-based. My
understanding was I could use the stable demo server and then configure my
own user and password once I get in. Do I have that wrong? Do I have to go
through the entire install instructions on my server of MySQL, Tomcat Etc.?
or can I just use the demo server. I know it's a stupid question, but I'm
  confused. Thanks Again

  Frank
