Hi Frank,

I just got your details now. I believe MIFOS is your uncompromisable solution.
The operations of your organisation shows you will find MIFOS interesting.
Considering, you client base, MIFOS will conveniently serve you and serve
several factors of your present figure. Since you operations are mainly based
on East Africa, you will surely find competent MIFOS specialist in that region.

I MIFOS has been used in that region successfully even by a commercial bank
(never worry about the name). Now considering village banking, you will find
mobile banking the best option. There was a project on mobile banking in Uganda
that wasn't a success. However the same platform is a big success in South
Africa and Kenya. You can still tap into it and do the post mortem to see why
it failed. One thing I am sure of is that MIFOS will serve you. Please go
through the knowledge centre on the website very well. Starting from your
server dimensioning to database replication, you have all the information there.

As per ASP model, I will like you to be very careful as most projects in Africa
hacve failed because of this. However, if you can look at a store and forward
solution which MIFOS light is trying to address, then you can consider such a
plan. You will be spending a lot of resources to make sure the link is
perfectly alright to get the microfiance banks up for the working hours. In
fact this is the reason for branchless banking. You can achieve this with EFT
POS deployment such that the information is uploaded using GPRS technology on
EFT POS.

While I will not pre-empt your requirement, please get in touch with MIFOS
specialist in East Africa. There a couple of them that can assist.

Should you requirement more information about MIFOS, please always get in touch
with the community.

Wish you all the best.

Thank you,

Thanks Krishnan,

>From everything I've reviewed on Mifos, this platform has great
functionality for all our centers. We would just modify each center within
Mifos to accommodate that countries methodology.

I would really appreciate you helping us set up the basic
server. Is it set up on a Mifos server. That would be my preference, if not we
have servers that handle our website. Our immediate need.

1) A web-based
platform.

2) Capability
for each staff member to access and update data on real-time or end of day.

3) We
will deploy mobile banking technology next year. That data can be manually
inputted
into Mifos if not automatically.

For now the basic server would suffice.

Frank

  Hello Frank,

  Welcome to MIFOS!

No, the demo server is just that: for demonstration
purposes. You may be best served by your own server installation that is
configured for your needs and users, but i can't tell without knowing some
  more about your needs.

All the instructions you need are available, if you want
to try the do-it-yourself approach. And, if not, there are other people who
can help. Some may volunteer, and some may charge for it.

For e.g., i can volunteer to help you setup the
basic server.. Being a web-based application, its not necessary that you
need to host your own, but of course, you should feel comfortable enough that
you can use Mifos securely if you "host" it elsewhere, on a server
  on the Internet, for example.

A good way to begin may be to list your needs and see how
close Mifos is to meeting them or exceeding them. For example, if you have
operations in different countries, you may have needs that other MFIs may not
  have.

Hope that your exploration of Mifos ends with a successful
installation. You should definitely get a lot of help from this list

  best regards,

  krishnan mani

  We
have running our data manually for too long. We are new to Mifos and
  wondering about a few things.

  We
have centers in 4 countries and would like a system that is web-based. My
understanding was I could use the stable demo server and then configure my
own user and password once I get in. Do I have that wrong? Do I have to go
through the entire install instructions on my server of MySQL, Tomcat Etc.?
or can I just use the demo server. I know it's a stupid question, but I'm
  confused. Thanks Again

  Frank
