Pentaho BI is recommended by Mifos.
Regarding your specific questions
1) Mifos had planned to drop support for Integrated BIRT in the future in
favor of Pentaho
2) From an end user perspective both reporting systems are very easy to use.
>From a development perspective (as per practices followed in development of
these reports for Mifos) BIRT reports take a little lesser effort to develop
than pentaho.
Both offer a lot of features and are quite flexible (However the Integrated
BIRT viewer in Mifos allows exporting only in PDF format........A summary of
