Thanks Ramesh for your prompt reply. To add some additional details:

(a) in which direction community is moving?

As Ramesh stated, community decided to move away from BIRT to Pentaho.
Pentaho offers up our latest set of standard reports as well as dashboards
and a convenient data warehouse to build on top of. There are still several
reports in BIRT that need to be migrated over to Pentaho.

A listing of Pentaho reports:

Overview of Mifos BI Suite:
http://issuu.com/mifos/docs/mifos-business-intelligence-suite

We are in the process of identifying the upcoming improvements to the Mifos
Business Intelligence Suite on Pentaho. In general we want to simplify the
ease in which MFI staff can analyze and respond to the information captured
in the Mifos database. Enhancements include deeper integration/embedding of
Pentaho with Mifos, dashboards, and ad-hoc reporting capabilities.

Very soon we'll be convening a group to discuss reporting requirements.

Would be very helpful if you could list desired reporting enhancements
either here on UserVoice - http://mifosinitiative.uservoice.com or as a
feature request in the issue tracker:
http://mifos.org/product/features/request-new-feature

(2)
Which is easy to use and more flexible?

I can't personally speak to ease of creating reports in either tool but
Pentaho provides capability for exporting to additional file formats, is the
solution that will be supported by the community, and has the convenience of
a data warehouse to write reports to.

(3) Is there a team/person who can provide support, etc.

I can connect you separately with individuals who can assist with reporting
- Ramesh from Conflux Technologies himself is a possible resource and others
like John Woodlock are helping to lead Business Intelligence efforts for
Mifos.

As we improve our directory of Mifos service providers - I'll make sure this
skillset is something that can easily be identified.

Best,

Ed
