Not sure if you have access to and are comfortable looking at the logs and database.
In the database, look at the gl_code and coa tables. It is not necessary to choose a numeric GL code (but you should be aware of future consequences), so you can experiment with them and check if they come up when creating a loan or deposit product Pls ensure that VOLUNTARY is not spelt as VOLUNT*O*RY (asterisks were added by me here for emphasis) in the mifosBeanConfig file, if you are using anything after Mifos 2.2 Also, these are one-time settings that must be configured when booting Mifos the first time (If its any consolation, this is a frequently asked question!)
