Not a good idea. If you run your batteries down to 9V, their storage capacity 
will be significantly reduced. 

 

In addition as the voltage decreases the current increases in order to provide 
the same amount of power. Add to that the voltage loss due to resistance in the 
CAT5 cable feeding the router and you are not in a good situation.

How about wire direct to your batteries? The devices will prolly run at 18v or 
less, although the batteries will take it in the shorts. But you said this was 
a short term fix…
