KISS...  Having built/worked on some of the most complex systems as
possible ( medical computers, analog chips for disc drives, nuclear
power plants..) and some of the simplest, I'll take simple for
reliability/cost every time.
        The single voltage measurement gives very good information of state
of battery charge without adding too much equipment/cost.
        I believe this is exactly what Einstein was trying to say.   That
said, I do use fully intelligent charge controllers when the cost
justifies it.

But we have three remote AP's that just have a single 433AH with a
single 60Watt panel and a couple of deep cycle batteries that have
done well for five years on their own in the mountains without any
other information needed besides simple voltage.  With the small
number of customers on them 2-6 throwing a $1000 of cost doesn't
result in any more performance.   The true art is knowing what is too
cheap...  And when to change the batteries...  LOL
