You actually need to set up the whole message with support files in a directory as per "man 7 mimedefang-protocol", then invoke: mimedefang.pl -f FILTER your-test-directory It's a bit time-consuming to figure out and set up the first time, but it's rather handy to have a few such test messages set up permanently, to check edits to the filter file.
