It depends on how buggy your version of Perl is. :-) On Red Hat Linux 8 and 9, you can do "md-mx-ctrl reread" and you'll be OK. On Solaris 9, even explicitly following the instructions in the perlembed man page, destroying and recreating the Perl interpreter yields a segfault. I started trying to debug this, but got scared away by the innards of Perl. A colleague of mine ran Perl under a tool to detect memory leaks, and he found all kinds of leaks and bad memory references inside Perl.
