For best performance from sendmail's mailqueues, put xf in a RAM disk, and put df and qf on two separate spindles on two different controllers -- and use the fastest possible disks you can afford. For example, given two different disks with the same seek times, a 15,000 RPM drive will be twice as fast as a 7,500 RPM drive. Also, in general, SCSI drives will be faster than IDE drives -- in fact, quite often two SCSI drives on the same controller will be faster than two IDE drives on separate controllers because of the differences between how the SCSI and IDE protocols transfer data over their buses.
