Mark, We found that for uvscan, using RAMDISK cut the scan time by anywhere from 1/2 to 2/3 the scan time of using sigs on HDD. No difference was found for clamd. The tests were run on a Sparc w/ 2GB RAM, with a LA around 3, and a context change rate around 3K to 4K/sec, and a page rate of next to zero.
