I'm well aware of this.  However, there's another grammar you have
to consider:  That of the UNIX shell, which tends not to like unbalanced
single quotes hanging around.

So when I'm programming and I have to choose between English grammar
and Bourne shell grammar, English grammar loses, alas. :-)
