Well, I think you are missing that these zombie computer networks are being used as spambots that are controlled by a central source. While the addresses might look weird, a good amount of them will get stopped by the 4 methods I mentioned.

Perhaps just count it as a highly ineffective dictionary attack ;-)

It's not so much a dictionary attack, at least not to me. They're all coming to recipients that resemble a message ID, as opposed to some name like some viruses use. Like, the message SENDER is [EMAIL PROTECTED], or [EMAIL PROTECTED], and try to deliver TO [EMAIL PROTECTED], which is of course invalid.
