Thanks for the input! I'm currently using ($rv, $reason) =
&check_valid_mx($sender) and hence not using the check_email_and_mx to use
the regexp test so it's good to get this feedback.
Can either of you send me test case email address(es) to add to the test
scripts?

So yeah, '=' will show up in the LHS of a significant number of legit
envelope senders.
