This is true orn, and I would imagine that the halo is nothing new nor
the aura. Perhaps optical halos were perceived as portals to the
heavens and therefore used as representation in depicting someone as
saintly. Halos do form around light and light bears significant
meaning in religion. Without scientific knowledge of the formation of
halos it was simply left to the minds of early man to establish a
cause for it's existence. As with many other myths the halo took on
spiritual identity and was therefore subsequently used in art form.
Probably the use of the halo became standard procedure for anyone who
was considered saintly whether or not the person exhibited any such
thing in real life, it just became popular for artists.
I think, when one allows the inner persona to transcend physical
existence the essence of spiritual energy enters the physical form and
emanates it's energy in the form of aura and/or halo. There is a
period of mental adjustment that takes place to allow the aura to take
place. Aura is not something that is there all the time or activated
on demand.
