"Shrewd people do exist…and in most situations will ‘win’…at least when it comes to taking a larger share of resources."
Shrewd people educate themselves and work hard to succeed. Those that cheat I hope end up in jail. "Well, since ‘government’ is composed of people, see rule 1 above. And, in this sense, government is no different…even to the detail that ‘we the people’ seldom enforce regulations when we can get away without doing so." Yes, yes, we have the "government we deserve", I get it. I want them passing laws to protect us from criminals and rogue states. Not interfering in private production. That's what 'carbon credits' and corporate taxes are all about. Local government does a decent job here in my city and state. I don't moan about local politicians as much as I do federal ones. I think too often they get drunk with power up there in DC and forget about their real responsibilities. "So, you are pro-taxes…got it! : - )" Taxes are necessary. I understand that much. Most aren't. I would support a Fair Tax. ..and, what about a ‘bust fund’ for ailing people?..... If you are referring to government subsidized health care I'm against it. Medicare was Bush's biggest boondoggle. I see no reason to compound the problem. When I see suffering I can do something about, I do it. Too often, suffering is brought on by the sufferers. Private donors would take well care of kids and deserving ailing people. Why do you think people from the UK travel to India to get health care? Why do Canadian's come down here to the good 'ol USA? I'll tell you. It's because their home country's health care system sucks. No offense to any of you Brits and Canucks out there. Most of the people supporting the new 'new deal' are looking for handouts. It's a shame, really, to see a once proud nation reduced to wanting to live off the fruits of others labor. There are so many loopholes and 'credits' and ways to game the system that much of what should be spent as charity to the truly needy really ends up in the pockets of cheats. Private charities do a much better job of screening then the federal Gov't. Congress's new laws reduce the tax break for charitable donations to private charities and says they don't need them because Uncle Sam will now take care of them. Right. We'll see how that works out. I think it is a mistake to help people who are perfectly capable of helping themselves. The soft bigotry of low expectations keeps many an able bodied man on the couch with his government chips and government beer. dj --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups ""Minds Eye"" group.
