i think religions have positively and negatively affected civilization
almost equally, depending on which side of its authority u live under.
the community of religion can be a blessing to the participants, but
can also alienate some. there have been many positive things done by
the people of the churches, and even some by the heirarchy. on the
other hand, many terrible events have been carried out in the name of
religion, and this is mostly the fault of those in power within the
religion.

imo religion was necessary to control the masses, unfortunately often
through fearull admonitions and rules. i believe this benefited
society by helping to keep the peace...i believe religion is losing
its lustre, people are beginning to figure out that the spirit is an
individual entity, and that sharing a spiritual experience will more
likely take place in a kitchen than a church, where we are taught not
to try and invent the wheel, but to listen to the dogma while titheing
up. my only negative opinion of religion is aimed at the very top rung
of the ladder.

in case u havent guessed...i am the son of a preacher man, obviously
rebelled but am not totally anti-religion, just dont buy into the
heirarchy and that fact that its man made. i have no personal interest
in mans religion, but think its kule if others get something out of
it...hopefully more than just the hope, belief and trust that their
investment will pay off... ;-^)
