This thread is a good example of a general deterioration in the quality of discussion and debate on the 'Eye recently. One-line assertions, unsupported by any kind of logical argument, factual grounding or authoritative underpinning, do not invite to a development and deepening of themes, rather to mutual slogan-slinging.
This is not to say that every entry in a discussion has to be a discourse; the one-liner tope can be very effective in the context of a good discussion - gabby frequently (not always :-)) achieves a surgical precision here - but like any good rhetorical/discussive device works best when used sparingly and discerningly. Otherwise, we could all just as well abandon Minds Eye and move to Twitter. Alternatively, we could all become zen masters and talk to each other in koans. paw's initial statement here begs so many questions as to become almost meaningless. What do you mean by God? What is this [upper case] "Glorifying" you are talking about? How does this benefit us? Does it benefit God? What is obvious about this? Wittgenstein ended the "Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus" with the sentence, "Wovon man nicht sprechen kann, darĂ¼ber muss man schweigen / Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must be silent." At the moment, reading many posts here, I incline towards the one-liner: If you've got nothing to say, then say nothing.
