Checking your profile, Omprem, I see you have been an enthusiastic
poster at AvC. It strikes me as a pity you didn't take a bit more time
to acquaint yourself with the atmosphere here before letting fly with
a post like this.
Your blanket description of atheists is insulting and demeaning. There
seems to be little willingness to openly listen to what others have to
say and possibly even learn something or develop your thinking
further. In the final analysis, such posts demean no one so much as
the author, for they provide an image of what can happen to people
when they indulge themselves in a voluntary self-inflicted lobotomy.
We've had quite a number of posts here recently from people who seem
to be hawking one kind of theistic super-knowledge or another. Common
features of them all seem to be a remarkable self-certainty, paired
with a tendency to try to use ridicule, or just plain block-
headedness, in exchanges with those who question such insights.
Each atheist has his/her own story. Many of these stories involve long
hard wrestling with faith and the realising dawning of its absence. I
would have thought that those who were genuinely moved by some kind of
divine enlightenment would exhibit this state by showing something
like respect for their interlocutors. Well, you live and learn ...
