This is because you didn't play cricket Gruff.  Cricket is precisely
about waiting for serendipitous synchronicity.  In cold weather, 69
years pass in about two hours of fielding and a whole opposition is
put to the sword in the blink of the eye of a drying pitch and cloud
cover.
