Jim, I think the point you raise is a good one. I also post with my real name and hope that this ensures I always post "in character". However, there is definitely a danger that something I'll say jokingly could be taken out of context and misrepresented. It's far too late to do anything about that now, though.
FYI, posts can be deleted by moderators and I think there's definitely times when this is appropriate -- e.g. yesterday when I accidentally sent a personal email to Mind's Eye! :) However, given that some people participate via email, we obviously cannot fish your post out of people's inboxes.
