Coherent structure in developing societies can be considered a
positive aspect, especially when the society is dominated by a more
brutal or slave oriented society.
The beginning of the islamic empire gave us a standard for intellect
and learning. If not for the early islamic nations seizing and
preserving ancient philosophical texts, they would be gone. This does
touch on early christian dedication to destroy these however...
The jews may have died out when they were just another canaanite tribe
if not for the invention of yahweh. Creating the idea of a single god
that has precedence over the other gods allowed them to adopt customs
such as allowed foods and circumcision that maintained a pride in
purity that allowed them to overcome much and maintain an identity.
These are all positive aspects in my opinion, though they each have
their own attached negatives.
