I tend to think that what we see as conscious activity in the body (as shown in EEGs or FMRIs) is the spatio-temporal interface to our true consciousness, which is outside of space-time and, therefore, eternal. And yes, I know I can't prove that, but I'm equally aware that no one can disprove it either. At least not yet. Only after our deaths will each of us become fully aware of the (complete details of the) truth, if there is an eternal aspect; if there is no eternal aspect, then, at death, we have nothing to worry about and will be in no less ignorance, for sure. ;-) I have personal experience of encountering an entity that was not physical and that entity impressed thoughts in my mind (although I 'heard' nothing) that could not have originated from my own imagination or knowledge, as it was given in two languages at once: one that I did know and one I didn't know but, later, verified. These kinds of experiences are very rare and I've certainly only had the one. But, believe me, one is enough. Of course, there's always the chance that I'll be similarly blessed/plagued again at some point. One thing is for sure, though, this entity was conscious and, whilst it 'touched' me, I felt no pressure, as one would when another physical body touches you; rather, I felt a sensation of coolness. My assumption from that is that purely 'spiritual' entities retain the coherence of their form by utilising the ambient heat in their general vicinity. This corresponds to the claims of cold patches where people make claims of the presence of spiritual entities like 'ghosts'.
